Morella

Bernabé Sangüesa Antolí

Located at the northern end of the Valencian Community and only 60 kilometres from the coast, Morella presents itself before the eyes of the visitor enveloped in the charm proffered by its strategic position, which fills the landscape, and the centuries-old walls crowned by the robust castle at more than a thousand metres above sea level. Its sixteen towers, six portals and almost two kilometres of wall form a unique silhouette, crowned by the imposing castle. Declared a Historic-Artistic Site, Morella has been awarded the Heritage Prize by the World Heritage cities for its excellent municipal rehabilitation, and has also obtained UNESCO recognition for the rock shelter of Morella la Vella. This is a town whose tradition, monuments, gastronomy, folklore and environment are sure to make you fall in love.

Bernabé Sangüesa Antolí
Mayor of Morella

Morella is an inland town, but relatively close to the coast. Nestled among a sea of mountains, its silhouette at the top of the hill presents the visitor with a very unique image. Although the first impression is undoubtedly striking, you will be equally enthralled by the way in which the passage of time has left its mark on our little town. Indeed, here time seems to stop, enabling the visitor to enjoy history, culture, landscapes or our gastronomy at leisure.

Morella has been revitalised and the town has overcome the period of decline experienced in the twentieth century. Since the 1990s, the city has been in the throes of a great revolution, with work underway to generate economic opportunities through continuous collaboration between the public and private sectors. The town has also made a decisive commitment to high-quality tourism and, via the guidelines established by the Strategic Tourism Plan, dynamic projects are taking shape and the main monuments exalted. Because this is one of our objectives: culture and heritage must be at the service of citizens.

We have a long way to go, but if you come to walk through our streets, you will find a welcoming city and services typical of larger municipalities. Because our history has to merge with innovation and constant improvement. Only in this way can we continue to receive hundreds of thousands of visitors a year and ensure they enjoy a great experience.

We look forward to seeing you!
