El Burgo de Osma

Antonio Pardo Capilla

El Burgo de Osma is a walled town located in the province of Soria that hides great treasures that will enchant anyone who visits it. In this town we find a large number of monuments of great historical value, such as the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, built between the 12th and 18th centuries. Three artistic styles come together in this temple: the Romanesque cathedral (of which few traces remain); the Gothic cathedral, which makes up the majority of the building; and the Renaissance-style remodelling of the façade and staircase.

You must visit the the Episcopal palace, which dates from the 16th century with its Gothic-Flemish style, and don't miss the University of Santa Catalina (16th century) in Renaissance style.

But the jewel in the crown of El Burgo de Osma is undoubtedly its 10th-century Castle, which stands just outside the town, linking El Burgo with Osma. Built in masonry, the castle offers a view of both towns and the gorge.
