Garachico

The village known as "the Vizier's gardens" has grown up along a stepped terrain inherited from its Arab founders, and sits in all its splendour among chestnut trees, holm oaks and cork oaks.

Located in the heart of the Genal Valley, one of the most pristine landscapes in Andalusia, the low whitewashed houses of its historic centre are the perfect foil for the 18th-century parish church of San Pedro de Verona, with its characteristic octagonal tower. Built in academic, classicist and baroque style with visible Mudejar influence, the church welcomes visitors to this "museum town," whose streets constitute contemporary art galleries throughout the year, with over 120 works of art on display between the streets of Genalguacil and its Museum of Contemporary Art.

Genalguacil's beauty also lies in its cultural and gastronomic heritage. The village has a strong artisanal tradition based around cork and olive rods, used to create beautiful crafts. Enjoying tomato soup and hot gazpacho in any of its streets is another precious moment that we cannot afford to miss.
